a simple practice to be a better you
Rome wasn’t built in a day. And it was built brick by brick.
Last month I celebrated 1500 days of meditation (today is day 1530!). This milestone started as a 40-day challenge as part of my Kundalini teacher training back in 2015. My teacher said if I missed a day I went back to day one. I am a perfectionist, there was no way I was going to miss a day!
At that point in my life I was struggling to be myself. I never dreamed meditation would become the staple that it is in my life. I only knew that something had to change, and I was committed to finding a better way to live my life.
When I first started vision and goal setting, I thought I had to go big. That my dreams had to be so wild and bold that others would be impressed and then my life has meaning.
That didn’t work because they were so far beyond what I believed possible that I didn’t get close to reaching them. And at the core, those vision and goals weren’t me.
It’s the bricks you place one on top of the other each day that create a purposeful life.
After 40 days I did 50 more, then 1000, then… here I am.
I’m not saying it was (or is) easy. Most days it’s still effort. I am saying this:
I made a commitment to myself and I wasn’t going to let myself down anymore.
So I meditated, no matter what was going on or how I felt. The bricks.
It was that 40 days that set me up and got me to 1500.
On your quest to a better life and being a better human, it’s the daily commitment — the bricks — that matter.
What commitments will you make to yourself to live your purposeful life?
